Sudbury Mine Mill & Smelter Worker's Union, Local 598/Unifor have released the name of the man who was killed at Glencore's Nickel Rim South mine in Sudbury on Tuesday.

Richard Pigeau died after being struck by a piece of machinery underground sometime Tuesday morning.

Operations at Glencore's Nickel Rim South mine in Sudbury are stalled until further notice, as a investigation into the death of a worker continues.

Glencore said his family has been notified. The union has told CBC News that the family does not want to speak to the media at this time.

This is the first incident of a worker being killed in a Sudbury mine this year.

Glencore has been given one order by the ministry not to disturb the scene.

Nickel Rim South mine was one of four sites visited by Ontario's Chief Prevention Officer and member of the Advisory Group for the Mining Health, Safety and Prevention Review, which was released in March 2015. The purpose of the visit was to observe a variety of mining techniques and speak to people who worked underground.
