The mayor of Iroquois Falls says Resolute Forest Products is laying off between 50 and 70 people from its pulp and paper mill in the next six months.

Gilles Forget said the news is another hit for the community. He said the company has already reduced its workforce from 330 people 270. The new layoffs will mean about 160 people will be left working on site.

"At the end of the day ... it takes 50 to 60 youth out of our community, and their families, [who] may have to look for work somewhere else," he said.

CBC News contacted Resolute Forest Products for comment, but no one from the company returned CBC News' calls.
