Skating on Sudbury's Ramsey Lake is still a few weeks away. City crews need to wait for the ice to thicken up some more before they head out to work on the popular skating path.

Despite a cold and snowy start to the winter season, the city of Sudbury says it's likely to be several more weeks before the skate path on Ramsey Lake opens.

The city says at least a foot of ice has to build up on the lake before small equipment can start preparing the path. Even thicker ice is required before the heavy flooding equipment can go to work.

The city says crews won't likely start working on the path until mid-January.
