The community of Estaire in Greater Sudbury is on high alert, following a murder on Monday.

OPP reports it responded to a 911 call yesterday afternoon on Elbow Ridge Road, shortly after 4:00 p.m.

A woman, 40-year-old Sheri-Lynn McEwan of Estaire, was found with serious injuries and later died.

Constable Rodney Petroski said police can not release details about the injuries McEwan sustained because it is an active investigation. He added police cannot discuss or confirm if a suspect is at large in this case and no charges have been laid.

Provincial Police are asking the public to keep personal safety in mind, he said.

“Certainly, keep your doors locked, keep your eyes open."

Petroski added if anyone spots anything unusual or out of the ordinary, to report it to police.

“These are small communities and people know each other quite well,” Petroski said. “So anything that seems out of place, out of routine, to report it to police.”

Petroski confirmed police are still in the area and that members of the Sudbury OPP crime unit are investigating, along with the assistance of the Criminal Investigation Branch.

Meanwhile, officials with the hospital in Sudbury say Health Sciences North workers are "mourning the tragic death of a member of the HSN family."

McEwan was a registered nurse with 15 years of experience in the hospital's operating room.

"Sheri-Lynn was a dedicated, hardworking and excellent nurse known for her outgoing personality, positive nature, and warm smile," a spokesperson with the hospital said. "We want to extend our deepest sympathies to her family, friends, and coworkers."
