Sudbury police issue warning about popular — and distracting — Pokémon app

Players can become so absorbed in video game, they can pose a threat to themselves
Greater Sudbury Police have issued a warning about the hazards of playing a new Pokémon app.
Police say that while the app itself poses no immediate threat, Pokémon Go players can become distracted enough to walk into traffic or fall into a body of water.
The game works off your cell phone's GPS and clock to detect where and when you are in the game and make Pokémon characters appear "virtually" around you (on your phone screen) so you can catch them.
Sudbury police have not identified any specific incidents in the city, but they caution players from riding bicycles or driving cars while playing Pokémon Go.
Police remind players that any distraction while walking, operating a bicycle or motor vehicle can have fatal consequences.
For those enthusiasts, enjoy the new "Pokémon Go" game but do so responsibly and safely around roadways or waterways, said police.
