Pedestrian, 58, killed by construction grader on Elgin St.
A collision between a piece of construction equipment and a 58-year-old woman resulted in tragedy Wednesday afternoon.
Little is known about how the woman, who was using a walker, was killed at the corner of Elgin and Beech Streets — in front of a horrified group of spectators.
Police have released few details about the victim, but CBC News has learned several of her friends saw the collision happen. They were later seen crying and holding on to each other.
The area is now cordoned off and under police investigation.
Several nearby roads have been closed, including:
- Beech Street at Frood Road
- Ste. Anne Road at Elgin Street
- Elgin Street at Elm Street
- Durham Street at Beech Street
Police are asking pedestrians and motorists to avoid the area.
Just this week people who live and work in the area were complaining about the state of the construction site. There were concerns raised about the safety of the area, especially for pedestrians.
