Nurse practitioner joins Sudbury ER

A nurse practitioner is now working in the emergency department at Health Sciences North in Sudbury.

The hospital reports a nurse practitioner has been added to the ER’s team to perform a range of medical procedures, including patient diagnosis, prescribing medications, ordering lab tests and setting broken bones.

Before becoming a certified nurse practitioner, the hospital said Laura Hill was a registered nurse who focused on geriatric care.

In a release, Hill said she has a lot of experience in discharge planning and that will help move people through the emergency department more quickly.

She added a nurse practitioner in the emergency room should improve access to care for patients and reduce treatment times.
