Noah, Emma top baby names for 2013 in northern Ontario

Service Ontario says name trends in the North aren't the same as those for southern and central Ontario.

Noah and Emma topped the list for most popular baby names in northern Ontario in 2013.

Overall, Olivia was the most popular girls name in Ontario — and parents in the province chose Liam most often for boys.

Service Ontario keeps track of baby names.

The provincial agency reported Canadian political names were popular, though whether the picks were politically related is not know. Service Ontario reported 166 babies were named Harper, 388 Thomas, 289 Elizabeth and 129 Justin.

Some of the most popular names also came from television series. 'Sons of Anarchy' topped the list with 70 babies named Jax, 58 named Gemma and 48 named Abel. Breaking Bad wasn't far behind with 104 Skylars, 87 Jesses and 18 Walters.

In 2013, 14 babies were named Winter, and 93 were named Summer. And the winner for most Canadian name? Maple. Nine babies received that patriotic moniker last year.
