Mining company Vale has cut 30 jobs in Sudbury.
A spokesperson for the company said the 30 support and service non-union positions were cut Tuesday as the company works to reduce costs in the wake of volatile market conditions.
Angie Robson said the process includes a reduction in workforce levels, not only in Sudbury, but in operations around the world. Voluntary retirement packages have been offered to eligible staff, she noted.
The company has also looked for opportunities to redeploy other staff to Vale operations in Ontario, Manitoba or Newfoundland, Robson said.
