Markham driver forced oncoming traffic off Hwy 69: police

Provincial police say they have taken a 54-year-old Markham man into custody for dangerous driving and stunt driving after numerous complaints from motorists on Highways 69, 64 and 535.

Provincial police say they have taken a 54-year-old Markham man into custody for dangerous driving and stunt driving after numerous complaints from motorists on Highways 69, 64 and 535.

Shortly after 8 a.m. on Canada Day police began received complaints about a black mini-van travelling at very high rates of speed while northbound on Highway 69. The vehicle was also reported to be on the wrong side of the road and forcing oncoming traffic to take evasive action. 

Police said the suspect vehicle and driver were located on Highway 539 in the Municipality of Markstay-Warren, later that day.

No collisions were reported related to the complaints.

The Markham man was expected to attend a bail hearing in a Sudbury court today.

The OPP said they are continuing to investigate the matter.
