This weekend, a ski trail in Sudbury will be named in honour of Jean Hanson.

Hanson is probably best known as a long-time educator in Sudbury, but she was also a dedicated volunteer and board member for the Laurentian Nordic Ski Club.

Club president Parry Sakki said a ceremony will be held Saturday to dedicate a section of trail.

"She loved skiing and we have a trail that she loved to ski everyday before she would open up the ski chalet," Sakki said.

"So in honour of what she did for our ski club we are going to name a portion of the trail Jean's Gentle Jaunt. It's a trail that less experienced skiers would enjoy. Our bunny rabbits, our non-racer types that are just learning to ski. That was what Jean loved to do."

Sakki said Hanson was a familiar face at the club's chalet. She also helped lead the fight several years ago against a proposed road that could cut through the ski trails.

Hanson lost her fight with cancer this year. She was 63.
