Lady Isabelle to remain open until residents find new long-term care homes
‘Ongoing concerns’ cause of Lady Isabelle nursing home shutdown: Ministry
The Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care says that residents at the Lady Isabelle Nursing Home in Trout Creek will be allowed to stay in the facility until they have found new homes.
The home's licence to operate was revoked on July 11 due to "ongoing issues related to care and management," Ministry spokesperson David Jensen said in an email to CBC News.
"Ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents living in long-term care homes across the province is a strong priority for this government and we have been clear that non-compliance with the Long-Term Care Homes Act will not be tolerated," Jensen said.
The email goes on to say that Lady Isabelle will remain open until all residents have been moved to a new long-term care home of their choice.
"Over the next few months, we will be working to ensure that all current residents are given priority for placement in new homes that will provide them with the high quality care and comfort these residents deserve," he said.
According to Jensen, an interim manager was put in place last week to oversee the shutdown of the home on behalf of the ministry.
The ministry provided no further details on the number of residents in the home, or the current capacity of other long-term care homes in the area, but said they would be "exploring all options" so residents can be cared for close to home.
