Hwy 17 reopen at Serpent River after pedestrian hit by truck
Highway crash markes third collision with pedestrian in the northeast this week
Ontario Provincial Police say Highway 17 is back open in both directions at Serpent River after a pedestrian was struck by a transport truck early this morning.
Police say 19-year-old Jacob Mimeault from Serpent River First Nation was transported to hospital where he remains in serious condition.
OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators are still at the scene with the assistance of officers from the East Algoma Detachment to continue the investigation.
The highway is now open in both directions, but people are asked to drive with care when in the area.
Since Tuesday, there have been two other crashes in the region involving pedestrians and vehicles, and two people have died.
Her name has been withheld at the request of her family. Sudbury Police have not said if charges will be laid in that case.
Also on Tuesday, North Bay Police were called after a woman was hit by a truck on Lakeshore Drive. Gaetane Gribbon, 76, died of her injuries in hospital.
North Bay Police say it's unclear if there will be charges against the driver of the truck involved.
