Greater Sudbury needs to get greener: Mayor
Greater Sudbury Mayor Marianne Matichuk says it's time for the city to take real action when it comes to becoming more environmentally friendly. She is in Ottawa for two days attending the Greening Government Conference. The annual conference brings together leaders from across Canada to learn about environmental initiatives.
Matichuk said "It's come up a few times, but I think it's really time to get serious about this," she said.
"I think we need to start looking at what we can do to make our buildings and our municipality greener and that's one of the reasons why I'm down here."
Tuesday the mayor met with NDP environmental critic Megan Leslie to learn about ways municipalities can take advantage of government initiatives.
Wednesday she was to attend conferences to find out about ways to keep energy costs down. The city will reportedly be hiring a person to look at the area's buildings to decide what changes need to be made to make them more environmentally friendly.
