An outdoor event featuring music, food and a movie screening will take place Wednesday evening in downtown Sudbury to raise money and awareness for the Downtown Indie Cinema Co-op.

Northern Ontario far outranks other regions with the percentage of registered organ donors. Here's the story of Lynda Schutt.

Organizer Clifton Skelliter said the group is trying to start a venue that will show more independent and foreign films in Sudbury.

Skelliter, who is with a marketing company called Launchpad, is teaming up with Lululemon's Carolyn Bar to bring the event to a parking lot located at the intesection of Larch and Cedar Streets, where the restaurant 100 Georges was once located.

The event is free, but donations are welcome. All residents need to bring is something to sit on.

“If people are feeling generous, they could throw some money in there,” Skelliter said. “As long as they have a good night and … talk about it.”

Even though the proceeds will go toward an independent cinema group, the decision was made to show a blockbuster hit like Ghostbusters, instead of an Indie feature.

“We wanted to draw people out," he continued. “We started off with this idea and then only after that did we decide we were going to raise money and awareness for an organization.”
