Future Shop in Sudbury is shuttered, stores in Timmins, Sault and North Bay to rebrand as Best Buy

The eletronics retailer suddenly closed its 192 stores across Canada on Saturday, will rebrand about half under sister chain Best Buy.

A stream of surprised shoppers turned up at the Future Shop store in New Sudbury on Saturday to find paper covering the windows.

It was closed suddenly along with 192 stores across Canada.

There were signs posted in Sudbury, directing customers to the Best Buy store on Marcus Drive.

The parent company, Best Buy Canada, is re-branding 66 of the former Future Shops as Best Buy, to re-open on April 4.

That includes the Future Shop stores in Timmins, Sault Ste. Marie and North Bay.

However, it appears the Sudbury Future Shop will be among the 65 to close permanently, after about 15 years in the city.
