Steven Leduc, 32, fled while being taken from the courthouse to a vehicle for transport. He had been out for a bail hearing.

Police called in an OPP canine tracking dog to search the neighbourhood but they failed to turn up anything, calling the search off just before dark.

Timmins Police spokeswoman Kate Cantin says police were following up on information Thursday that led them to an address at Birch and Algonquin late in the afternoon.

They arrested Leduc peacefully around five p.m. and he now faces more charges including escaping lawful custody.

Cantin says there will be an internal investigation into how Leduc was able to escape in the first place.
