Former STC artistic director David Sherman-Savoy has died

David Sherman-Savoy died peacefully in his sleep this morning, according to a post on social media by his brother Jeff.

David Sherman-Savoy retired from the STC last year after being with the company since 2009. He left due to the progression of his multiple sclerosis. He was previously artistic director of both Showboat Theatre in Port Colborne and St. Lawrence Stage Company in Brockville, prior to joining STC. (Markus Schwabe/CBC)

Former Sudbury Theatre Centre Artistic Director David Sherman-Savoy died peacefully in his sleep Wednesday morning, according to a post on social media by his brother Jeff. "I know that he touched many of you and in return took great pride and pleasure in his friends," wrote Jeff on Facebook.

There were many comments from friends about the impact that the actor, director and mentor had on their lives. Here are a few examples:

"David Sherman-Savoy was my greatest mentor and dear friend. He always said that you should work with people you love."

"Our dear, sweet, funny, beautiful friend, David Sherman-Savoy has left us far, far too soon. I loved him dearly and we laughed our way through many different shows at many different theatres."

"David will be missed by all those who had the pleasure of working with him, for him, and those who had the joy of watching his performance."
