Conservative Andre Robichaud, Liberal Heather Wilson and NDPer Carol Hughes face off in a debate at the Elliot Lake Moose Lodge, moderated by Mayor Dan Marchisella.

This 96,000 square kilometre riding covers a huge swath of northern Ontario, stretching from White River to Manitoulin Island.

Unlike most ridings, it doesn't include a major city, with the largest population centres being towns like Elliot Lake, Espanola, Kapuskasing and Hearst.

The Algoma-Manitoulin district has traditionally been a Liberal stronghold, with the region electing Grits since 1935, including former Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson.

But New Democrat Carol Hughes ended that streak in 2008, defeating incumbent Liberal Brent St. Denis by 5,000 votes. She held the seat in 2011, capturing 51 per cent of the vote.
