Extra parking coming for hospital workers
Sudbury Regional Hospital short 500 spaces for parking
A parkade for the Sudbury Regional Hospital could cost as much as $26 million.
The new amalgamated hospital is short at least 500 parking spots. That means some staff are parking in city lots at Bell Park and catching a shuttle bus to work.
On a CBC radio show this weekend, hospital senior vice president Joe Pilon said the hospital plans to build a parking structure. He said a request for proposals (RFP) will be issued next month.
"We are going to ask someone to build us a parking structure," he said.
"We need to decide through that process of RFP whether we will finance it or they will finance it and we lease it back from them. We haven't really resolved that."
Pilon said the parking structure will have 750 parking spots.
Each spot could cost as much as $35,000 — bringing the cost to solve the parking problem to $26 million.
