The majority of the film's production is due to take place in Sudbury and principal photography is underway.

The City of Sudbury said Born to be Blue is filming of exterior scenes in front of the Townehouse Tavern on Elgin Street, and in the pedestrian underpass between Elgin Street and Riverside Drive on Oct. 23.

Written and directed by Robert Budreau (That Beautiful Somewhere), Hawke has helped to develop the project.

Hawke is having a banner year. He's generating Oscar buzz for his role in Boyhood and stars in the upcoming drama The Good Kill, about drone warfare. He's also receiving acclaim for his documentary Seymour: An Introduction, about pianist Seymour Bernstein.

Born to be Blue is one of two films turning Sudbury's downtown area into a film set. A Hideaway Pictures film production called 30th Birthday is also shooting on portions of Durham and Larch Streets.
