Ontario Provincial Police say a 51-year-old man from Goulais River is charged with cruelty to an animal after a dog returned home with an arrow in its side this week.

On Monday morning, OPP in Sault Ste. Marie received a call that a dog, who'd gone outside in Havilland Bay — about 40 kilometres north of Sault Ste. Marie — had come home with an arrow in its side.

According to the owner's Facebook page, "Remington", the German Shorthaired Pointer, was taken for surgery in Lansing, Mich., and is recovering.

The accused is slated to appear in court in January.
