The family of a Sudbury teenager killed by a drunk driver says the memorial set up in his name was recently vandalised.

Kim Hancock says the city gave the family a spot near the Countryside Arena to place memorabilia for her son, DJ.

But some of the items have been stolen, including bar bells, medals, and other items of significance, she said. Hancock is asking that they be returned.

"It was just hurtful and painful, thinking that someone would do that to a memorial site for someone who was killed by a drunk driver," she said.

"It was where we liked to go to spend a little time alone and with DJ, and so did some of his friends."

Hancock said she and her husband go there for quiet time about five times a week. The family plans to put up a more permanent memorial in DJ's memory, when the weather gets better.
