Sudbury Olympian Devon Kershaw has returned home this week for the Share the Road community bike ride, which highlights cycling safety.

Kershaw has teamed up with the Share the Road Cycling Coalition for the annual event on Thursday night. It raises awareness for bike safety and healthy lifestyles.

The community ride will start and finish at Science North and is open to cyclists of all ages and abilities. Registration starts at 5 p.m.

Kershaw has a personal connection to cycling safety. His girlfriend Sophie Manarin was killed on a training ride in Sudbury in 2001. He shared his story with CBC Sudbury Mortnin North radio show host Markus Schwabe:
