Laurentian University's campus radio station CKLU is on the move. After more than 30 years in the same location, it's moving downtown. Steve Kraus is the president of CKLU's board of directors. He joined us in studio to tell more about the move.

There will be more of Laurentian University in downtown Sudbury with the move of the campus radio station.

The president of the board of directors of CKLU said the station has been uprooted by campus modernization on the main campus.

The new space will be in the same heritage building that forms part of Laurentian's architecture school, and Steve Kraus said the move is a big opportunity.

"It's going to be incredible," he told CBC News.

"We were just talking about it around the board table a few weeks ago about the fact that we are literally going to have festivals under our front door at this new location — so things like Up Fest [Up Here] and Ribfest."

Kraus said the station expects to move in the next few weeks with full operation coming in the fall.

This move comes after more than 30 years at the original Laurentian campus site.

Kraus said as they've been packing up, they've uncovered a lot of nostalgic items.

"There's some very treasured photos of a local, downtown icon himself — Mr. Paul Loewenberg — from over at the Townehouse Tavern," Kraus said.

"He was instrumental in some of the early days of CKLU. We found some very humourous pictures of Paul in his student days, having a very different look than he does now!"

Kraus said some may miss CKLU's presence on the old campus, but he said they'll find new ways to be a part of university life.
