Northern Ontario has stunning scenery, and you've likely tried to capture what your eye is seeing on a camera.

But taking a photo of a breathtaking horizon or beautiful sunset isn't always easy.

Mike Grandmaison, an award winning photographer, grew up in Sudbury but now lives in Winnipeg.

He said after taking photos for a period of time, you kind of get a sense when you've captured something special.

"Part of it is such an emotional experience sometimes to gather the images," he said.

"After a while, you just know you've got a good image."

Grandmaison will be in Sudbury on Sunday to share photography tips. It will take place Sunday at the Lake Laurentian Conservation area at 6 p.m.

CBC's Morning North is giving away copies of Grandmaison's book. To win, listeners are asked to email a nature photo to morningnorth@cbc.ca or tweet the photo @morningnorth. You can also call our talkback line at 1-800-461-1138 and share a story about something that has happened to you while walking a trail or hiking.
