Carol Mulligan announces intention to seek Sudbury provincial NDP nomination
Mulligan spent 15 years at the Sudbury Star as part of a decades-long career in journalism
A third candidate has stepped forward to seek the nomination for the provincial New Democrats in the Sudbury riding for the 2018 election.
Former Sudbury Star journalist Carol Mulligan announced her candidacy on Friday.
Mulligan left the Star earlier in 2017 after spending 15 years at the paper. According to a written release, she didn't intend to seek a career in politics after retirement but several citizens encouraged her to seek the nomination.
"Entering provincial politics will allow me to continue to fight for people who are struggling and against those who are making Sudburians' struggles more difficult," Mulligan was quoted as saying.
Filmmaker Beth Mairs and Labour Council President Jamie West are also seeking the nomination.
The Sudbury riding is currently held by Ontario Energy Minister Glenn Thibeault for the Liberals.
