Cambrian College IT student competes at national skills competition
Third year Cambrian College student Jawala Birdi is putting his computer skills to the test this weekend at the Skills Canada National Competition in Saskatoon, SK.
Birdi, a student in Cambrian's Computer Systems Technology Program in Sudbury, won the provincial competition in early May to qualify for the nationals.
"I do feel a little bit of pressure," Birdi admitted, considering the winning record Cambrian holds at the skills competition in IT.
Computer Systems professor Bob Vachon has proudly displayed five banners in his classroom, marking the national champions who have taken his course since 2006.
"I get to brag about my students and how well we do," Vachon said. He added it's a "feather in the cap" for his students to become provincial and national champions.
Birdi said, "if I have my way we'll have another gold this year."
During the competition students are required to connect router switches, and configure Windows and UNIX computer systems.
The national competition takes place May 27 - 30, 2015.
