CBC photographer Yvon Theriault spotted bear rummaging through Minnow Lake blue boxes
CBC-Radio Canada photographer Yvon Theriault shot this short video of a black bear rummaging through blue bins in the Minnow Lake neighbourhood.
What's interesting about this bear is its colour: the black bear appears to be brown.
A brown black bear is not as rare as people might think, said Brad Estabrooks of Sudbury outdoor store Ramakko's.
"They're just like the Klondike bear out west," Estabrooks said. "It's part of the genes."
"Some black bears will have a white patch on their chest, " he said. "Or a black bear [will bear] a brown cub. That black bear has the brown fur gene."
Estabrooks said what people should be on the lookout for is a black bear with a white patch, which is far less common. In his experience, Estabrooks has seen only one in the Sudbury area.
