OPP charge 18-year-old with attempted murder in small northern Ontario community

Ontario Provincial Police have charged an 18-year-old man with attempted murder and aggravated assault after a 16-year-old female was hit by a vehicle in Cobalt on Sunday.

Ontario Provincial Police have charged an 18-year-old man with attempted murder and aggravated assault after a teenaged female was hit by a vehicle in Cobalt on Sunday. 

The 16-year-old girl was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police also charged the 18-year-old with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and breach of conditional sentence order.

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 12.

Police are withholding his name to protect the victim's identity.

Cobalt  is just south of the city of Temiskaming Shores, about 90 minutes north of North Bay.
