The Board of Directors of the Advanced Medical Research Institute of Canada in Sudbury has announced the resignation of its CEO and scientific director.

In a news release sent out Friday, the Board did not give a reason for this sudden move by Dr. Franciso Diaz-Mitoma.

While a recruitment process goes ahead, the CEO of Health Sciences North, Dr. Denis Roy, will preside over the centre, the released stated, and Dr. Janet McElhaney will take on the job as interim scientific director.

A spokesman for HSN says there won't be any comment because this is a personnel matter.

Dr. Diaz-Mitoma was recruited from Ottawa in 2011. His specialty is mircrobiology.

Just a week ago there was a ground-breaking for the multi-million dollar medical research lab in Sudbury.
