Sir Alec Guinness Dies

Sir Alec Guinness, one of the greatest actors of his generation, is dead.

He was 86.

Guinness triumphed on both the screen and the stage appearing in everything from Shakespeare to Star Wars. He won an Academy Award in 1958 for his role in "Bridge On The River Kwai".

Guinness also appeared in the first season at Stratford in 1953, giving the fledgling festival instant credibility.
