Senior scam hits SJ

Police are warning Saint John seniors to watch out for con artists posing as bank inspectors.

Complaints have been made about someone calling seniors and asking them for help in catching a bank teller who's stealing money.

The phony bank inspector asks the senior to assist the investigation by withdrawing money and giving it to him for safekeeping.

The banks do not have inspectors that ask you to withdraw money out of your account as they're doing any investigation," says Sgt. Pat Bonner. "If you have any concerns about the bank and anybody calling, return the call to the bank and then deal with it in that fashion.
Bonner says the con-artists appear to preying mainly on female seniors. He says the women are told the operation is top-secret and not to tell anyone about it.
