A 17-year-old girl and a 21-year-old woman made their first appearances in Saskatoon provincial court Wednesday — charged in connection with the Monday crash that killed two teens.

Police said a stolen truck slammed into another vehicle, killing a 17-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl. A 16-year-old girl was taken to hospital with what is believed to be life-threatening injuries.

Cheyann Chrystal Peeteetuce, 21, faces a series of charges, including impaired driving causing death, impaired driving causing bodily harm, flight causing death, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, criminal negligence causing death, possession of stolen property and breach of probation.

She limped into court and had a bandage on her hand. The prosecutor said the Crown was opposed to bail and Peeteetuce was remanded in custody.

Also appearing in court was the 17-year-old. Her charges include possession of stolen property under $5,000 and breach of undertaking.

Her parents were not in the courtroom, but at least one family member was present.

Following the brief appearance, she was remanded into custody and will be back in court Thursday where bail will be discussed.

The girl's name can't be published because she's a minor.

Victims' families contacted

On Tuesday, a reporter from CBC News contacted family members of the two victims to see if they wanted to release information about them.

The father of Sarah Wensley, 17, agreed to have her identity confirmed. He said he hopes to share more information about his daughter in the days ahead.

The family of James (J.P.) Haughey, 17, also agreed to have his name released.

Both were students at Bethlehem Catholic High School in Saskatoon.
