1) War and Peace, by Leo Tolstoy, 1869
"It truly is an epic piece sweep of history, in a very powerful way."
2) Love Medicine, by Louise Erdrich, 1984
"Beautiful novel that I think really kind of shows the life of Anishinabe, of the Ojibway people, my mother's people. It's a stunningly beautiful written book. One of the books that made me want to become a writer. "
3) No Great Mischief, by Alistair MacLeod, 1999
"I think it's one of the great Canadian novels, written by an amazing person. Who has passed on sadly. He's had such an impact on writers in Canada and readers in Canada."
