Thousands of Sask. Muslims celebrating Eid this morning
Muslims celebrating pilgrimage to mecca, large crowds expected
Large crowds are expected this morning as Muslims across the province gather together to celebrate the pilgrimage to Mecca.
Every year, Eid Al Adha brings thousands of faithful together for morning prayers.
Eid Al Adha is held to celebrate the Hajj, an annual pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca. Generally, those who aren't on the pilgrimage come together locally to celebrate the event.
Today's ceremony will end with everyone greeting each other, and asking other for forgiveness for any wrongdoings that were committed during the year.
After that, people will spend the day visiting each other's homes and eating special holiday dishes and desserts.
In Regina, Eid ceremonies will be held at Evraz Place at 8:30 a.m. CST. In Saskatoon, ceremonies will be held at Prairieland Park at 9:30 a.m.
