Construction workers have now started the long process to rebuild Saskatoon's Traffic Bridge.

One of the first big projects will be building a berm out into the river. The berm will hold the river water back, so construction workers and vehicles can drive into the middle of the river.

The earth berm will stretch all the way from the south bank of the river to the bridge's middle pier.

Once the berm is in place, workers will start demolishing the existing bridge.

The Meewasin Trail has been detoured around the area. As of this weekend, hikers and runners are being diverted onto Saskachewan Crescent E. Walkers are asked to follow posted signs.

Construction of the new Traffic Bridge should start early next year. The new bridge is expected to be completed in three years.
