Man, 37, charged with murder after woman, 39, found dead in Saskatoon home Tuesday morning

Saskatoon police have charged a man with second-degree murder after the city's first homicide of the year.

Saskatoon police have charged a man with second-degree murder after the city's first homicide of the year.

Police received a call around 8:30 a.m. CST Tuesday about an injured person at the home on Kootenay Drive, according to a news release. When officers arrived at the home they found a 39-year-old woman dead.

Blake Jeffrey Schreiner, 37, is now charged with second-degree murder. He was in the home at the time and knew the victim, police said.

He made a brief court appearance by video link on Wednesday and his case is set to return on Friday. He remains in custody.

The name of the victim has not being released, pending next of kin being notified.

Saskatoon had 10 recorded homicides in 2018, a mark matched previously in 2010 and 2016.
