Saskatoon moves closer to finalizing bridge project
City Hall is working out the details of fixing up the University Bridge
The details have yet to be worked out, but there’s no question that many drivers in Saskatoon will face some challenging commutes over the spring and summer.
That’s because the nearly 100 year-old University Bridge is in serious need of repair, and traffic will be restricted from May to August.
As it stands, one lane will be open to traffic from downtown Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. CST to 8 p.m. CST. On the weekends, and overnight, the plan is to close the bridge entirely, as crews will be permitted to work 24 hours a day.
Emergency officials have raised some concerns about the plan to restrict traffic on the bridge, because it is a main route to Royal University Hospital.
The University Bridge project was a topic for discussion this week at a council committee meeting.
The project is currently out for tender, with a closing deadline late this month.
