Saskatoon Mayor Don Atchison opposes bridge naming contest
Saskatoon Mayor Don Atchison says holding a contest to name the new South Bridge isn't worth the money.
Money can be better spent, Mayor says
Saskatoon Mayor Don Atchison dislikes the idea of holding a contest to name the new South Bridge.
The competition could cost the city more than $30,000 and the mayor said the money can be better spent.
"To have to spend additional dollars on this right now, I don't think this is really a priority for the City of Saskatoon," he said. "I think we've got a lot more things that we could be dealing with."
He said his list of priorities include — reaching a deal with the locked out transit workers, controlling property taxes, keeping the city safe and improving roads.
The contest idea goes before a committee on Monday.
