Saskatoon breaks its own University Cup attendance record
With 41,089 fans coming out during the national men's university championship, Saskatoon has broken its own attendance record.
More than 41,000 fans filled the stands at Credit Union Centre over the course of the tournament
There's no fighting allowed and no one gets paid, but Saskatoon fans have given the University Cup a ringing endorsement.
During the men's university hockey championship, 41,089 spectators filled the stands at Credit Union Centre. That breaks the record of 40,956, set in the same arena in 2000.
Tournament organizers said the five most well-attended University Cups have all taken place in Saskatoon.
The University of Saskatchewan Huskies posted a 3-1 loss to the University of Alberta Golden Bears in Sunday's gold-medal game. More than 6,280 people took in the final game.
Scouts for the NHL's Dallas Stars spotted Huskies' forward Derek Hulak during the seven-game tournament. They've now offered the tournament's most valuable player a tryout this week with one of their farm teams.
