Roughriders plan barbecues, parties for training camp in Saskatoon

Training camp starts at Griffiths Stadium on May 29

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are getting ready to party.

In honour of training camp season, which opens May 29 in Saskatoon, the team is hosting a number of events to get the Bridge City fired up.

On May 27, the team will be hosting an official kickoff party at O'Brians Event Centre. The night will feature live music, with featured guests One Bad Son, and some special appearances by Rider players. Tickets are $20.

The team will then hold first live scrimmage and fan day at Saskatoon Minor Football Field (formerly Gordie Howe Bowl) on June 4. The Riders will hit the field at 4 p.m.

The event will also features activities for kids and appearances by Gainer the Gopher and the Rider Cheer Team. Following the team's scrimmage on June 4, a cabaret will be held in the newly completed Gordie Howe Sports Centre.

Finally, on June 12, the team will hold a street festival and tailgate barbecue on 21st Street E. from noon to 4 p.m. Players and head coach Chris Jones will make an appearance.

The entire 2016 training camp is scheduled for three weeks starting on May 29.
