Recreation master plan review needed for city
The city's community services department is recommending a recreation master plan for Saskatoon.
Last time done 1996
The city's community services department says it's time to update Saskatoon's approach to recreation.
The department is calling for an assessment of the city's recreation master plan.
The last time officials took a big picture look was in 1996.
The department is making its pitch to the planning and operations committee at a meeting today. It says a review is due because:
- The city has grown substantially, changing geographically and demographically;
- the needs of an aging population;
- health and obesity are becoming a national issue;
- the heightened awareness of the need to accommodate people with disabilities.
The proposed budget for the review is $200,000. It would be ready to present to council in early 2015.
