RCMP nab drivers for 2,200 violations during 3-day Sask. traffic blitz

Over a three-day October traffic blitz, RCMP members across the province found more than 2,200 violations on the road.

Over a three-day October traffic blitz, RCMP members across the province nabbed drivers for more than 2,200 violations on the road. 

The police service released the results of the project, which was dubbed Operation Impact, and ran from Oct. 10 to Oct. 12, 2015. 

4,913 drivers were pulled over during the operation. 2,223 violations were cited, and a few of them stand out. 19 speeding tickets were for drivers travelling 148 km/h or faster. A 27-year-old man was caught driving on Highway 11 near Prince Albert at 185 km/h; he was also charged with impaired driving.

Other stand-outs from the 1,094 alleged speeders include:

  • 4 vehicles were traveling 153 km/h
  • 2 vehicles were traveling at 155 km/h
  • 2 vehicles were traveling at 159 km/h
  • 1 vehicle was traveling at 160 km/h

Other citations from the project include: 

  • 46 impaired drivers (all alcohol, zero drugs)
  • 4 aggressive driving tickets for unsafe lane changes
  • 7 aggressive driving tickets for careless driving
  • 42 seatbelt violations
