Saskatoon police are trying to locate 27-year-old Daniel Forest to be questioned over the city's first homicide of 2017.

A 45-year-old man died in hospital after an alleged assault at a home on Avenue I S. in Pleasant Hill late Wednesday night.

Police want to question Forest, who is believed to be operating a 2001 red, four-door Ford Explorer. The vehicle is a Sport Trac model, which police say is distinctive.

Officers from the Saskatoon major crime section, forensic identification section and the Officer of the Chief Coroner are investigating the death. 

Police said the victim's name would not be released at the request of his family.
