Police say a Saskatoon man used a popular cell phone app to sexually exploit a young girl.

Police say an 18-year-old Saskatoon man used a popular cell phone app to make child pornography.

The case is one of four child pornography arrests by the provincial internet child exploitation unit between February and May.

The Saskatoon man used a common, and popular, cell phone app called "KIK Messenger" to exploit the girl, police said. The application lets users exchange text and pictures.

The man is charged with three counts of having, accessing and making child pornography, invitation to sexual touching, harassment and extortion. The man returns to court in June.

In Cumberland House Cree Nation, a 53-year-old man is charged with sexually abusing – and exploiting – a young girl in the northern community.

Police say a U.S. internet service provider flagged the man to them, and they originally arrested him for possession of child pornography after executing a search warrant.

Further investigation led to additional charges of making and distributing child pornography, sexual assault, sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching.

The victim has been identified and police say she was under 16 year old at the time of the alleged offences. The name of the man will not be released to protect the identity of the girl.

Two other Saskatoon men are facing a variety of child pornography charges.
