A 17-year-old has been charged with possession of a controlled substance after he was found with counterfeit OxyContin containing fentanyl.

Police held a traffic stop on the 2500 block of 22nd Street West last night, at around 10:40 p.m. CST.

Officers found seven fentanyl pills after searching the three people in the car.

Police continue to warn the public about the dangers of fentanyl. Since the pills are often made in clandestine labs, each batch may vary in strength and potency, leading to the likelihood of overdose.

The Saskatoon Integrated Drug Enforcement Street Team (SIDEST), a unit made up of the Saskatoon Police Service and the RCMP continue to investigate fentanyl in Saskatoon.
