Police charge 34-year-old Saskatoon man with killing mother in city's first homicide of 2021

A 34-year-old Saskatoon man has been charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder in relation to the city's first homicide of 2021.

Kevin Michael Hollman appeared by video at provincial court on Jan. 7.

It's alleged that he killed his 60-year-old mother Debbie Hollman in the early morning hours of Jan. 6 inside the family's eastside home. A 65-year-old man survived and remains in hospital.

Police were called to the home at 207 Wakaw Place at about 2 a.m. CST on Jan. 6. On arrival, they encountered Kevin Hollman on the street in front of the house.

Officers used a Taser to subdue and arrest him.

Police closed off the cul-de-sac for much of the day as they gathered evidence. Markers and cones on the street in front of the home showed where officers confronted the accused.

Neighbours described the Hollmans as a "loving family" who were friendly and enjoyed walking their golden retrievers.

Kevin Hollman is scheduled to return to court Jan. 14.
