Saskatchewan Prevention Institute to launch app this month
The Saskatchewan Prevention Institute is trying a new approach in getting its message about safe sex to young people in this province.
The organization will reach out to young people through their smart phones. The Keep It Safe Saskatchewan mobile app will include safe sex information and even help teens find free condoms.
The institute’s Jackie Eaton believes young people need this information.
"STI numbers and HIV rates in Saskatchewan are extremely high," she said. "Unplanned pregnancies particularly among adolescents are very high in Saskatchewan as well."
The app should launch later this month and will be promoted in high schools across Saskatchewan.
