Students at Saskatoon's King George Community School have donated their grad money to help people in Fort McMurray, Alta.

The Grade 8 class auctioned off their services to raise $1,000 by completing chores such as weeding gardens, cleaning and reading to younger students.

The money normally would have gone to their farewell celebration, but Grade 8 student Karly Lauzon said the class had other ideas.

"It makes us feel good that we can give back to people and know that we can still have grad and they can have something," she said.

Since there are fewer than ten students in the class, the Grade 7 class also pitched in.

They completed six hours worth of chores as part of the deal.

The students gave the cheque to the Red Cross Friday morning.
